South Dakota Takes Extreme Measures to Be the Top Anti–Abortion State PC2012 24

South Dakota, a few other states and some federal representatives are taking extreme measures in bill writings to get rid of the Pro-Choice choice in the Abortion argument.

While trying to find more information about this topic I tried looking through Lexis Nexis search but the site would not work so I searched google and found a little information.

The first thing that I read about through this search is that at the beginning of this year South Dakota passed a bill and the first of its kind which says that any women who is getting an abortion has to go to anti-abortion counseling beforehand. This bill also says that you have to wait 72 hours before having the abortion, go to a pregnancy crisis center, have two visits with a physician, and a screening for any kind of risk factors. The governors thought process on this is that it will help the woman “make the right choice”. This is the longest waiting period in the US and in mixed with the visit to the pregnancy crisis center is causing threats from Planned Parenthood to sue the state.

This article covers points that I have made above in more detail.

In the book this topic was farther talked about saying that the people at these centers are untrained and heavy supports of Pro-Life. This is the biggest hit against women’s reproductive rights since ROE v. WADE.

Though to me this sounds crazy it is not as bad as the previously discussed bills. South Dakota’s potential bill said that any family member of a women who has had an abortion has a right to defend the life of the fetus, calling it “justifiable homicide”.

Though South Dakota’s first attempted sounds crazy to me it is not the first time things like this have come up. Iowa has two laws one saying that a fetus has the rights of any person and another changing the definition of self defense to include deadly force that can equal up to this same thing. The issue of abortion is so big in South Dakota that there is a movie coming out about it. The movie is based on two true stories. Here is the preview:

Nebraska also tried to pass a bill go up that said any third parties actions to save a fetus including deadly force was okay. After doing farther research on this I found an article about a law that is now in place in Nebraska. The article was called “Nebraska Anti-Abortion Law Forces Mother to Watch Her Baby die”. It was about a women who was forced to go through a birth knowing that when her baby was born it would die within in an hour of its death. After waiting the ten days for the baby to be born the mother and father had to hold and watch as their baby struggled to breath for ten minutes then finally died.

The US has now passed a law against giving money to any place that gives abortions though the bill includes an exemption for women that are raped or if the situation is incest. This happen in the beginning of this year. I found an article about it from CNN.com that basically said that it was a good thing because it was stopping abortion and all the money it is spending.

CNN's Planned Parenthood Cuts Article

This makes me laugh because I love that when people are arguing about Planned Parenthood they tend to forget that it also deals with STDs, planning pregnancies, and regular check-ups for the women that can’t afford a doctors.

The main goal of this side of the government is to overturn ROE v. WADE and they are slowly succeeding as you can see on this graph:

The statistics in this graph scare me a little what about you?
